Chelsea State Bank is committed to keeping our community informed on common scams. Our goal is to provide you with the resources to protect, recognize, and report scams and fraud. For this newsletter, we will be focusing on scams involving calls from Apple and Amazon, as well as fake currency.
Fake Calls from Apple and Amazon
Scammers are calling people and using the names of two companies everyone knows, Apple and Amazon, to rip people off.
Click the buttons below to hear exactly what these calls sound like:
In both scenarios, the scammers say you can press 1 to speak with a representative. Or they give you a phone number to call. Don’t do either. It’s a scam. They’re trying to steal your personal information, like your account password or your credit card number.
If you get an unexpected call or message about a problem with any of your accounts, hang up.
- Do not press 1 to speak with customer support
- Do not call a phone number they gave you
- Do not give out your personal information
If you think there may actually be a problem with one of your accounts, contact the company using a phone number or website you know is real.

This March, Chelsea State Bank had a fake $100 bill circulate through our cash. The bill was not a counterfeit bill, instead it was a piece of prop money used for movie productions, entertainment, etc. On the right side of the fake bill is written “for motion pictures copy money” and in the top left corner “this is not a legal tender”. These bills look real at first glance, but if you pay attention to the texture difference, you will notice a glossy finish opposed to a rigged texture real currency has.

The U.S. Department of Treasury advises anyone who thinks they have a fake bill to contact your local police department, or call your local U.S. Secret Service Office.
